A great hammock is suspended between heaven and earth, weaving together worn materials and wearied objects, scars and longing - the markings of time and memory. This is the center of Moshe Roas's exhibition, an intermediate state which threatens to collapse under the layered matter by which it is loaded. Fishing nets, driftwood, rope, pieces of woven textile, iron framings, a tortoise shell and other materials which he collected near his current home in Jaffa and his previous home on the seashore, woven together intuitively with no material hierarchy. These remains, swept up from the sea along with urban and household materials Roas has collected, amass to form internal organs into which he seeks to breathe life. Continue Reading
